Pull-Up

Adding Weight

Use bands, an assisted pull-up machine, a pulley, or a partner to reduce weight. Use a harness and a sling with a carabiner to add weight (see Hangboard: Adding Weight).

  • Hands slightly wider than shoulder width
  • Pronated grip (palms facing away from your body)
  • Thumbs on top of the bar
  • Retract shoulder blades before pulling up
  • Use your lats and upper back
  • Don’t compensate by pulling with your biceps
  • Squeeze your glutes (trust me, it helps!)
