Take another deep breath in using the Valsalva maneuver and hold it throughout the duration of the rep. Bring the bar down quickly and with full control—do not drop the weight. Think about bending the bar on the way down by tucking your elbows slightly when in the hole. Try to meet the bar with your chest and touch your solar plexus as lightly and controlled as possible. I like to imagine there’s an egg shell on my chest that I cannot crack. Pause for one count while maintaining full tension, then drive the bar back and up with as much force and speed as possible. Feel your quads engaged the entire time, even when the weight is light. This is a compound lift that utilizes your entire body.
