BAR PATH

For any lift, the most efficient bar path is vertical. However, if you were to move the bar from the bottom position (resting on your front delts) to the top (arms extended above your head), it would pass through your chin. As such, try to skim your nose and move the bar as close as possible to your face, then immediately get under the bar once you’ve cleared your face. Keep the bar close to your face on the way down and don’t let it sag in the bottom position. Feel your quads engaged the entire time, even when the weight is light. This is a compound lift that engages your entire body. Decrease the weight if you find yourself compensating by bending your knees or hyperextending your lower back.
